TURBIDITY METER

The Turbidity Meter is installed in the inlet line to the weir box of a sulfur burning system.
The weir box controls the depth of water in the bottom of the direct contact Primary
Cooler used to quench the burner gases. When incomplete sulfur burning occurs, the
overflow water is contaminated with flowers of sulfur. The flowers of sulfur turn the water
to a milky white. By monitoring the turbidity of this overflow stream, a signal can be
generated to alert the operator to burner operational problems.

From the electronic sensor box, a beam of light is transmitted to an "eye". The light
beam is shown through a pyrex section of the overflow pipe between the Primary Cooler
and the Weir Box. Reflection of this light beam back through the "eye" is measured and
used to generate the alarm signal. Sensitivity of this turbidity meter permits early
detection of flowers of sulfur formation.

The turbidity meter is considered an essential operational tool and is included in the
supply of A. H. Lundberg, Inc. Refer to drawing SA-1074-A for an installation sketch.
