AUTOMATIC SULFUR NOZZLE CLEANER

Description

The A.H. Lundberg, Inc. Automatic Sulfur Nozzle Cleaner is a pneumatically operated
sulfur nozzle cleaning device. The sulfur nozzle can now be cleaned automatically at
regular timed intervals. In the past, the sulfur nozzle was most commonly cleaned when
pluggage was suspected due to operating problems. By cleaning the nozzle at regular
intervals, production is not effected. Also, the Automatic Sulfur Nozzle Cleaner improves
personnel safety. Personnel are no longer required to stand in front of the burner and
manually stroke the cleaning rod. The cleaning is automatically operated by an air
cylinder!

The Automatic Sulfur Nozzle Cleaner consists of the following components:

1    Control Box (NEMA 4 enclosure) with auto on/off switch
1    Manual Switch with NEMA 4 box for remote mounting near burner
1    Air Cylinders with nozzle mounting adapters
2    Stainless Steel flex hoses for connecting the air piping (by others) to the air cylinders

The Control Box houses the solenoid and adjustable timer and can be remotely mounted.
Instrument air is supplied to the control box and two air lines are routed from the control
box to the front of the sulfur burner. The two air lines are attached to the two stainless
steel flex hoses which attach to the air cylinder.

The mounting adapter, which holds the air cylinder, attaches to the sulfur nozzle. The
cleaning rod and two air hoses attach to the air cylinder. The flex hoses come supplied
with quick disconnect couplings which can only be attached in the correct, extend/retract
configuration.

At set intervals, the solenoid is de-energized, supplying air to the cylinders, extending the
rod through the sulfur nozzle. When the solenoid is energized, the cleaning rod is
retracted. The frequency of cleaning is adjustable from 0.1 to 1 hour between cleaning
and the duration of the extended cleaning rod is 1 to 10 seconds.

The Automatic Sulfur Nozzle Cleaner can be activated manually via the remote push
button at any time by the operator. Manual operation will override the timer device.
