SODA ASH UNLOADlNG / STORAGE
   
The Soda Ash Tank is utilized for the storage of sodium carbonate as a monohydrate
slurry. Slurry storage has distinct advantages over dry storage of light soda ash from
which it is made since it is possible to store considerably more material in a given
volume.

Within the tank, a clear liquid layer of saturated sodium carbonate solution is maintained
above the slurry. Providing that the temperature is held between 105 and 140 F, the
concentration of the solution varies only slightly from 32% which makes control of
subsequent dilutions relatively simple.

The Soda Ash Tank, fabricated of mild steel, is sized to suit the needs of the process.
Plate thickness is as required for the service and corrosion allowance. The tank is
provided with a bottom perforated pipe manifold for distribution of heated dissolving water
and a floating skimmer for removing saturated carbonate solution to process.

The Soda Ash Tank is usually field erected on the customer's foundation.
